Captain's Log: Stardate 11532.1
There is a multi-universe theory in quantum physics that asserts the objective reality of the universal wavefunction and denies the actuality of wavefunction collapse. Multi-universe implies that all possible alternate histories and futures are real, each representing an actual "world" (or "universe"). In lay terms, the hypothesis states there is a very large—perhaps infinite—number of universes, and everything that could possibly have happened in our past, but did not, has occurred in the past of some other universe or universes.

Therefore, there are universes that exist that are slightly different than ours and others which are vastly different. Also, in quantum physics, "String Theory" postulates that there are links between these universes and it's possible to travel between them.

This, of course, has been used often in science fiction stories like The Man In The High Tower, the alternate 1985 created by Biff in Back To The Future Part II, the twin towers still standing on the island of Manhatan (yes, one "t") on Fringe, and of course:

So why do I bring this up?

Because it appears that we have travelled to a vastly-different alternate universe.

A universe where:

  • The Enterprise does not need a whole lot of work to get ready for the season
  • Lt. Kurt spends his Saturdays welding instead of computer programming
  • Ensign Dave Jr. thinks high school lacrosse is better than yacht racing (Lacrosse? Really???)
  • Commander Richard and Ensign Ceaser came out to a work party

OK. Wow. That last one needs repeating.

Commander Richard and Ensign Ceaser came out to a work party.

Yeah, you read that. I typed it. Try reading it out loud - it may help with the dizziness.

I'm still in shock. One more time so Google picks it up:

Commander Richard and Ensign Ceaser came out to a work party.

And they worked. They painted. I shit you not.

And I know, back in our universe, my father is whining about how nobody helps him on his boat and Ceaser is too tired because he was out fending off 87-year-old groupies while playing bass in a Yonkers dive bar during all hours last night.

Anyway, if this is the new universe reality, I'll take it.

So a big, big, big thanks to First Officer Dave, Commander Richard, Ensign Ceaser, Ceaser's wife Olga, and my beautiful bride for all the work they did preparing the bottom and the interior for the season ahead. With all the helping hands, we got it done in less than three hours (including pizza and pepperoni roll consumption time.)

After starting the engine, I spent the balance of the day and the next setting up for the new electrical system that I'll be installing in the next week:

Isolated house and engine banks. 450 amp-hours of power. 2000 watt inverter. Automatic charging relay. I can almost hear Tim Allen grunting from an episode of Home Improvement.

And, while it's not something that's going to help our racing a whole lot, our weekends and cruising just got a WHOLE LOT BETTER:

Brand new bimini, baby! We now got it made in the shade!

Going to be the.... Best. Year. Ever.
